Make sure to support the long end of the cut if you let it fall after cutting it will bend down and kink the drip edge. Make sure the corner is tight and that the bottom edge is tight to the fascia before nailing off the drip edge. Once free slide the drip edge out and discard. To install a drip edge on a newly constructed roof or on a re roofing job attach the drip edge along the roof s eaves first.

How to install drip edge flashing to a new roof. The drip edge should be nailed centered in the top surface every 8 to 10 inches. Slide the corner tight to the fascia. Make sure the outer edge extends over the gutter.

At the eaves the drip edge should be installed before the eave protection membrane. Secure the drip edge with roofing cement. Place a nail at one end then the other. On the gable rake install drip edge starting at the bottom and working up.

While the vertical leg should be placed 1 4 1 2 away from the fascia. Be sure to tuck the drip edge under the starter strip and felt paper. Gently lift up the shingles on the edge of the roof and locate the nails holding the existing drip edge onto. Use a flat pry bar and hammer to pry the nails out of the drip edge gently.

No cutting is needed for this piece. Slightly open the hemmed edge to slide this piece over top of the installed piece on the eave. Align the leading bottom edge of the first piece on the gable rake with the front edge of the drip edge installed on the eave. You may need to nail through the starter strip into the drip edge.

How to install a drip edge. The above figure shows the correct application of the drip edge. Apply a continuous bead of cement along the top of the drip edge then press down on the shingle. Slip the wide flat flange of the material all the way under the first course of roof shingles as illustrated.
