The prius should respond by locking unlocking the doors. Close and open driver s door twice. Press both buttons on new the fob simultaneously and hold both down for a second and a half. Now if successful car responds with locking unlocking once implying this new fob is now programmed paired with this car.

If the backup remote is able to unlock the doors then you know that it is a problem with the key fob and not with your vehicle s locking system.

This verifies that the new fob is working. Insert the remote transmitter into the ignition switch slot and close the driver s door. Press the lock and unlock buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1 5 seconds. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons press the lock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds.
